Leadership team meeting agenda template
An agenda that says, for every item, what kind of item it is and what the owner wants from the team. It has a check to run before an item goes on, and a close that records decisions and actions. It is a Word file you can change as you like.
What is in the template?
- The meeting's frame: date, chair, note-taker, the purpose of this meeting and the deadline for papers.
- The agenda table: each item's type, the outcome the owner wants, the team task it serves, the owner, the time box and the pre-read.
- Four example items, marked as examples, one of each type.
- A check before an item goes on: four questions that keep issues off the agenda when they do not need the whole team.
- The close: decisions and actions with owners and dates, parked items, and three short questions on how the meeting went.
What are the four item types?
How do you use it?
Ask item owners to fill in their rows before a set deadline, with the pre-read attached. The chair then runs the check, and moves items that fail it to a better place.
In the meeting, read each item's type and desired outcome aloud before the discussion starts. It takes seconds, and it tells everyone what the item is for.
Why is it built this way?
Research on top management meetings links clear goals for each item and focused discussion with better results. The reasons, with sources, are in the leadership team meeting agenda and task conflict and relationship conflict.
